The concept for this story is unique, and I wanted to know more about these two characters and how their lives entwine. While the excerpt is well written, it didn't really hook me. It's almost too laid back. Within this slow unfolding in a bookstore, we're immediately given hints of three different story lines - David's immortality, the daredevil's fall, and a side character's abusive relationship. So there is a lot of setup but not a whole lot actually happening, making it difficult for me to make any sort of judgement.
