David walks into his bookstore and panics because he smells fire. As it turns out, it is just Tiana, one of his employee's, incense. He forbids incense from his store (clearly some baggage related to fire with him!) David seems to be a man of habit, one with the "regular" from the local sandwich shop, and an evening routine that doesn't differ. He eludes to October being a lost month -- the past two years he has taken vacation during that time, however, he will not tell Tiana exactly when he will be gone. He believes he will die in October.
