Nightbirds is the story of Matilde, Æsa, and Sayer - three girls with powerful magic that they can gift to clients for short term use with a kiss. Their identities are kept secret due to safety from those who wish to control them and those who wish to kill them. Once their season is over, they're expected to marry one of the lords and birth the next generation of Nightbirds. However, an unlikely player reveals that the Nightbirds that there is more to their magic than they've ever been told or even dreamed about, and that others like them exist. Matilde, Æsa, and Sayer realize that they and so many other generations of Nightbirds have been kept in the dark, not for their own protection, but for the protection of the people in charge.
This was a fun and thrilling journey! I enjoyed the magic system and learning about all the secrets of the world, although it was a little overwhelming with all the information. The pacing of the book fell a bit flat for me at times, but overall I enjoyed reading.
