I just could not get enough of this book. The characters were exquisitely drawn and each jumped off the page as individual human beings, with differences that weren’t intended to merely differentiate them from each other but added depth to the story. I also loved that this was a YA book where the female characters weren’t depending on someone else to come and save them, and got stronger when they relied on each other.

Although I was happy that there was some level of LGBTQ representation, it is always a struggle to deal with gender based scenarios such as a world in which only females have magic.

I also loved how rich the world building was - there were different plants and phrases and mythologies and histories and ethnicities and animals and just about anything you can think of. I am absolutely on pins and needles waiting for the second installment!
