In Nightbirds, we are given a fantasy unlike any other. The illustrators have graced the inside covers with maps of The Eudean Republic and the beginning starts with a map of the City of Simta. The book goes into great detail of this city as well as the Illan Island where one of the Nightbirds hails from.
From secret parties that everyone knows about to Great Houses that rule the land, we are brought into the sheltered world of the Nightbirds. Only this generation is t as pampered as those of old. Secrets abound, a Church is enraged, and vigilantes are out to cleanse the land. Meanwhile, the leaders of the gangs gather together, agreeing to keep the peace as long as they each stick to their own territory.
A Prince returns to take his rightful place, but that means his half sister must relinquish her power. Power she has fought to keep in this man’s world.
This book is filled with intrigue, drama, deception, magic, hate and love. Recipes are interspersed throughout as well as little anecdotes at the beginning of each chapter.
This was one I thoroughly enjoyed reading and look forward to the sequel or series as it may come.
I am thankful to bookishfirst, the publisher and most of all Kate J. Armstrong for allowing me to read & review this book.
