I was instantly drawn into this, the world building is fantastic and the writing is atmospheric and beautiful. It’s a bit of a slow burn but I never found myself bored by it. I loved that the MCs were four strong young ladies who gradually become more independent thinking as the book goes on. There is a touch of romance, but its a very minor part of the plot which I thought was really refreshing as it allowed the MCs to be introduced and developed as characters and not in relation to a partner. I would have liked to have seen a better bond between the four developed, perhaps that will come in the second book though.
Many things are left open to be picked up in the next book but I appreciated that there was not a major cliffhanger. I think YA fantasy fans will enjoy this, it’s a strong start to a new series and definitely has me excited to read the next book to see what happens!
