Nightbirds introduced a beautifully fleshed out world with strong aesthetics and lush writing to buoy its somewhat sluggishly building plot. The pace was pretty tempered throughout, but did pick up towards the latter half of the book.

I enjoyed getting to know our main crew immensely, and while the girls had pretty strong personalities (for the most part), I could've used a little more oomph in how they approached both the inherence of their powers and the inevitability of their connection. I'm excited to see this sisterhood develop as the story advances, and am hopeful that maybe this connection will come through a lot stronger as it does.

This book interlaced an odd pairing of piercing commentary and slightly dull follow through that left me feeling a bit ambivalent overall, but definitely intrigued enough to check back in with the sequel in future.
