I haven't been reading much YA recently so I was a little apprehensive to give Nightbirds a go. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the plot and the characters. While it was a bit slow to get going, the second half picked up quickly and the narrative got moving again.

In my opinion, the best part of the novel was the relationship between the three main characters. I always love a strong sisterly bond between three female characters and the relationship building in Nightbirds is particularly strong. I really enjoyed reading how it developed over the course of the novel.

However, I really struggled to get into this book. The plot was pretty slow for the first half and it was difficult for me to keep reading. The character dynamics kept me going but it didn't truly matter to me what happened in the plot. However, I think that since it picked up a bit in the second half it won't be an issue in the sequel.
