I was drawn into the mystery of the magic of the girls from the start. I loved seeing them from someone else's perspective first. I enjoyed the prohibition theme, with magic outlawed and speakeasys offering small magics and concoctions. The dynamics were interesting too; the girls have magical power, but in their society they are in a cage, forced into marriage to create more nightbirds. Each girl had a unique background and perspective on their power and position. The church's hunt for the nightbirds gripped me. I can't wait to read more!
