I'm invested in Mathilde, Æsa, and Sayer's developing friendship and character development. Knowing their reasons for following Leta and their very, very warped views about their status as Nightbirds, I'm interested enough to follow their story. I want to see how Armstrong will handle their arcs down the road, like breaking down how religion is influencing Æsa's sense of being a Nightbird.

But I feel neutral about the story cuz the core of the premise has been done before. That's not a bad thing, but I hope it brings something new to the table or at least effectively explores the idea of weaponizing politics and religion against girls. Though I'm not complaining about the whiff of romance in the air. And for all three of our main girls?!

I also think the cover is pretty. It pays attention to the charm of Nightbirds but against the black background, it's also mysterious.
