Nightbirds by Kate J. Armstrong has been turning up on numerous lists of highly anticipated YA coming out in early 2023. After reading this generous First Look (over 60 page!) I can definitely see why. Beyond the beguiling cover and fabulously detailed map on the opening pages, Nightbirds has an intriguing premise (forbidden magic! a gilded cage of lies!) and captivating writing that's akin to Leigh Bardugo's Six of Crows series. Knowing that this is the first in an anticipated series, I hope that it will end with a satisfying conclusion and not a cliffhanger. I'll definitely keep reading to find out!
