The colorful cover is sure to catch the eye of MG (middle grade) and YA readers while the promise of drama on the beach in California between cool-beyond-his teen-years Dean and volleyball-star Kaylee who got tired of Dean and dumped him seems aimed for a mature MG reader. Judging from the dialogue and the conflict (Kaylee's family is going to vacation with Dean's family again even though she broke up with Dean), this is a pretty safe and clean story that would be rated for all ages if made into a movie. It seems to be told from the girl's point of view. I have thoroughly enjoyed many YA novels, but this one seems aimed for a slightly younger market.
