Anyone else think it was funny that there was a glossary of British police force terms preceding the story, and then within the narrative itself, more British police force jargon was explained? Like... okiedokie then.

Also I didn't quite follow one bit of action from our detective MC... I think she picked up the victim's purse, checked for ID, then took a coin from the purse and placed it on the ground (to mark the location of the purse) and mentioned that the coin would be checked for fingerprints later... a coin you just placed (after touching it, gloved hand or no) on dirty, wintery, trash strewn ground... if "it" was referring to the purse, then that's just poor writing. Okeedookee tharn.

I've also read the First Look for La Plante's book Widows and... I was less than impressed with that as well. Murder Mile is set in the late 70s, there's less dramatic yelling, and I think I /could/ like the MC, but I don't really want to slog through boring clinical descriptions of the weather and dead bodies, and all of the sexism and annoying men MC will encounter so... alas, strike two for La Plante's bibliography for me. Thanks for the First Look!
