I absolutely adored this gem of a book! I have a soft spot for elderly eccentrics, and Mrs. Planksy slides right in there next to Ove and and Allan Karlsson. She's quirky and ballsy and this was just such a tremendously fun book to read. Of course, I also have a (no longer) secret obsession with Scammer Payback and this just felt like the book version! Spencer Quinn did a great job of bringing Loretta Plansky to life and surrounding her with some fantastically cliched characters - but it worked! Although this book was a light and refreshing read, I was still able to feel Mrs. Plansky's sadness about the loss of her husband, her fears that maybe her mental faculties might be slipping a bit, and her anger at being scammed out of her life savings. There was a depth in this book that I didn't fully expect. Although the book wasn't an incredibly believable tale, the manner in which it was written took you out of reality and made it feel entirely believable. I haven't read Spencer Quinn before, but I will be on the lookout for more books like this!
