This novel was intriguing. I liked how the author pulled me in to the story right from the beginning with an emotional beginning. This novel is set in the south in Alabama during the 1960s. It is the story of the ordinary people struggling to make a living and survive all that is going on. A field hand, Isaac Reynolds has gone missing. Some people are concerned, others don't care. Isaac's white friend, young Pete McLean is determined to find out what happened to Isaac. This brings about a string of events that will change everyone's lives. I liked the style of writing the author used. This novel is about the South during the 1960s. It is also about friendship and family. Most of all, it is about the division of race and class.
