I loved the characters in this book. They were real and deep. And, I wanted to meet them.
I wished that Isaac was around for more of the book. I also felt that the search for Isaac was too slow and dragged out. The grandfather hired a private detective, and it did take some time, but I still think that it took too long without much progress being made.
Of course, not all of the characters were likeable. Some were the prejudiced people of their time. (I hope that time has passed.)
But, overall, I liked the book. The beginning of the book was better than the middle. And I liked the ending as well. I felt sadness for what happened to Isaac. His loss was felt by the major characters in the story, and I felt that loss as well.
