In the excerpt provided, a realistic setting is established in Alabama with a multi-generational black family enjoying a normal day. The dialect of the family does not fit with the description of the book, nor the setting as you would not expect them to speak with proper English as it is highly unlikely any of the family members would be educated or have much schooling at all. Based on the few pages, the story is intriguing, but the speech would grate on me throughout the whole novel.
