I've enjoyed the author's essays in Southern Living magazine and when I read she was writing a novel, I knew I had to read it. My first impression is that this is an authentic story written by a true Southerner and it will reflect the heart of the time and place and the people who lived it. Now that I've read the excerpt, my initial assumptions are confirmed. The characters presented in this glimpse of the story are true to life. The language of the characters is authentic and reminds me of my childhood growing in Georgia in the 60s. The pickup truck dash across the field puts the reader right there. Powerful! I wanted to read more.

The cover is expressive of the sentiments I feel from reading the in the initial pages.
