This excerpt starts the book off running; the action begins not even three pages in. It certainly hooks the reader, I don't know how well the author handles their pacing later on but it is an exciting start. One thing I really liked was the mood that was set. The author did a really great job establishing a tone with her setting and characters and I can tell that this book will be a beautiful and sad one.
