After only week in Wicklow, Alabama, Anna Kate still cannot figure out why she moved to Wicklow even for the short term as directed by Grandmother Zee’s will. Zee always told her that “your roots will pull you back to where you belong” and Anna Kate knew she did not belong in Wicklow. As part of her Grandmother’s will Anna Kate has to spend 60 days in Wicklow, running the Blackbird Café. Wicklow’s fame is its Blackbirds, something not too many people know. However, when a flock of Blackbirds show follow the funeral of her grandmother, Wicklow is suddenly on the map. Blackbirds are not indigenous to the area. Wicklow becomes the hub for bird watchers.

Anna Kate does not want to become attached to anything or anyone, but she slowly finds herself becoming a hugger, a caretaker and someone she does not want to be because she will be leaving Wicklow. She does not want to care about Linde family who were the reason her mother left Wicklow in the first place. After accusing her mother of murdering her father. The Linden’s did not know of Anna Kate’s existence until she showed up in Wicklow.

Natalie Linden is struggling with the loss of her husband in a boating accident. She is not sure if it really was an accident or not. In order for her to find her footing again, she needs a slice of pie from the Blackbird Café. All of Wicklow knows that a slice of pie from the Café will bring a message from the other side.

When Anna Kate and Natalie meet, they both know that it will take a lot to mend the damage that the death of Anna Kate’s father created. But as Natalie and Anna Kate find out soon family is not an easy thing to fix.

Midnight at the Blackbird Café is a fun and charming story of loss, love, life and ultimately of forgiveness and happiness. Each character finds their way in one way or another. Loved this book and am happy to give it 5 stars.
