This has a mix of several genres all of which I like but it’s hard to know exactly how much I’d like the story since it’s the type of book I’d mostly judge on how well the story unravels. I admit I didn’t realize there would be a magical element to it based on the description (but I enjoy those types of books). However, the writing hasn’t really grabbed me despite the genre and mysteries hinted at it.
