Here, we see the narrator dealing with struggles that straddle personal, familial, and professional lives. While an attempt to connect results in an offensive slip of the tongue, the next days see an academic teaching crisis.

Told over the span of just one week (the book is organized by days rather than chapters, and told sequentially), Members Only is a thoughtful and thought-provoking perspective on race and connectedness. While we receive a bit of an epilogue, the tight timeline left a little space for un-resolution, but it isn’t distracting.

This story is so keenly current - you can imagine reading some of the action in media today. What is freshest here is the incorporation of the narrator’s own experiences through the lens of accusations against him.

I came for the tennis, but I stayed for the story.
