At first I wasn't too sure about this premise of this book but then realized that this probably does happens time to time. The idea of racism itself is hard to write about, but to write about a POC attempting to fit in using a racially charged joke only to be deemed a racist by the very racists who have shunned him is like peeling an onion. I am sure there are more levels of subtext and thought provoking things to come in this book and from this author in the future.
