What I liked the most about the excerpt was how quickly and confidently the characters were fleshed out in just a few pages. The story is very promising as an incisive social commentary on the issues of race, class, identity, and what it really means to belong. It would be very exciting to find out what the repercussions of Raj's words will be and what are the ways in which they will make him (and hopefully others around him) rethink how he has been treated by society.
The cover is a great choice, too, with the tennis ball disturbing the seemingly calm waters of the pool and promising a whirlpool underneath.
