Everyone wants to be accepted. You've probably written something for work or school that said you'd stop bullying, but bullying is not just being aggressive or harassing someone, but also purposely isolating them.

This excerpt was awkward in a relatable way, illustrating how people sometimes develop a group mentality inwardly and do not try and alter the way it impacts another. Perhaps it is easier to be in a group if you can define who is not included. Then it feels more special as you are not the social pariah, you are part of something. Maybe it is not significant, maybe it won't change the world, or improve anything in the community, but at least you are a part of it.

It is apparent in the author's writing that he is used to being pushed into the shadows, even as he tries nudge himself into a bit of light.

I enjoyed the excerpt in that while I do not usually read stories about reality, I felt like I would read further, and I felt closer to someone I will probably never meet, understanding what it was like to feel like one's existence started out unfair and less. I am sad and the author is not asking for sympathy or pity, but rather understanding.
