When Ododo’s country of Yorubaland is captured by a warrior king, she, along with her fellow country citizens, are fearful for the future. She is shocked when she is kidnapped and discovers that the beggar who she encountered only days before in rags is actually the warrior king himself and he wants her for his wife! This is a wonderful African story loosely based on the Greek tale of Persephone, and readers will find it to be very creative in the telling.
