I was immediately intrigued when I discovered that this book was loosely based on the myth of Persephone's abduction to the Underworld. The first glimpse introduces a world unlike any other I have read before and promises to be a unique spin on a oft-explored piece of mythology. I do have a few critiques, however. In some places, the dialog felt a little clunky and some of the terminology introduced could have been defined better for the reader. Additionally, the main character felt a little too passive for my tastes. Overall, although I found the First Look to be interesting, the synopsis compelling, and the cover a work of art, ultimately, I will likely pass on reading beyond the first two chapters.
