My first thought after seeing the cover is that I need to read this, one way or another; "her rise to fortune, paid in blood" just really hooks you in. The golden dandelion frame, Òdòdó in the middle? Absolutely gorgeous. And the excerpt is stunning. It doesn't go as far as the blurb promises, but from what I did read, the writing style is exceptional and the story is promising. Òdòdó's relationship with her mother feels so real that I can almost see me and my mom in it, and I know what it feels like to be the daughter (who's lived here forever) of a mom who immigrated here.
There's so much emotion in O.O. Sangoyomi's writing. You can really feel Òdòdó's panic when she's dragged across the Sahara and her sudden confusion when she's surrounded by riches and told she's to wed the Aláàfin.
Also, it's loosely based on Persephone's journey. Say no more, I'm already captured. I can't wait for this book to come out!
