As someone who lived in Texas for 15 years, and was personally impacted by tornados, floods, hurricane storms, and three awful ice storms, I knew almost immediately in the introduction that Hurricane Harvey was being brought up. I thought this would connect to me, but was quickly disappointed. This author used a truly terrible event to draw parallels in this book, but he is using an experience that admittedly didn't impact him personally. He's drawing on experiences of community members, but it feels off-putting to take other people's tragedy to convey a metaphor to, yet again, other people's marital problems. I would be more enticed to reading a book like this if he drew on his own tragedies, his own heartbreaks. That would feel more real.
