I really love this book. It was like The Magicians meets murder mystery but with a shot of reality. The main character, Ivy, has some dilemmas that I felt made this fantasy novel all the more relatable. Gailey included a realistic twist to a magical world in a refreshing and exciting way. I loved how seamlessly the characters interacted, it just was so real and well written that I couldn’t stop reading. My only complaint would be the abrupt ending. It just didn’t feel quite complete in the way I wanted it to. I felt like I at least needed another page just to close the novel in a way to satisfy my brain. I loved the chase for the killer, but the resolution happened in the very very end and didn’t leave enough room for a final conclusion. Overall, Magic for Liars was a wonderful, well written, novel that I thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend to those who loved The Magicians, and other fantasy novels that mix reality and magic.
