My Latest Sarah Gailey Read
This is my least favorite Sarah Gailey book to date, but I still mostly enjoyed my time with this one. It is extremely well-written, of course, being written by Gailey. The world-building is so well-conceived, and I really loved the blend of normal high school and the magical school we all collectively imagined.
The narrative voice, however, was really not for me. I don't think it's at all a stretch to say that the main character was likely very depressed. Her self-hatred was intense and off-putting and put me in a really weird reading mood. I fully acknowledge that I'm very sensitive to depressed characters, but it did put me in a reading funk nonetheless.
Gailey is one of my favorite authors, so I will absolutely read more of their works in the future. I will likely reread Magic for Liars at a later date, but this was, sadly, not my favorite of Gailey's books.
