I really enjoyed this book, especially as someone who has a lot of very complicated feelings about high school and my relationship with my sibling. The main character was a little bit on the "woe is me" side and definitely did have a drinking problem, but it didn't completely quash my enjoyment of the novel. In my opinion, the ending was emotionally satisfying, but not at all what I expected. There was one thread that I felt was left dangling, and a few others that needed a little bit more care and attention spent on them, but again, I felt good walking away from this book. I definitely felt like I got a complete story. I loved the themes that were explored in this book as well as the musings on adolescence. I also have to cordially disagree with everyone comparing this book to Harry Potter. Not only is the whole "haha magic school" acknowledged in the text, but the vibe is also completely different.
