Different than I thought!

I went into this thinking, from the description, that it would be like Harry Potter. But oh was I wrong, and I’m so glad that I was (as much as I love HP!). The book follows Ivy Gamble, Private Investigator, who has been called to a school for young mages to investigate a murder. Ivy is not magical but her twin sister, Tabitha, is and also teaches at the school. While Ivy initially annoyed me, I enjoyed seeing her grapple with her complicated past and insecurities. It was also fun to see the unique form that magic takes in this book and felt different than in other fantasy books I’ve read. The mystery itself seemed a little too simple––despite the complicated premise––and it all wrapped up a little too quickly. But it was still an enjoyable read. I recommend for people who like thrillers and fantasy and are curious what the unique combo of the two might produce!
