I thought I was coming into a book similar to Harry Potter or The Magicians. However, this was more of a murder investigation that happened to be at a school for wizards. I loved Ivy Gamble and I want to know where her story goes after the end of Magic for Liars. As a detective, that isn't magical like her sister. She's had a harder time in life and investigates more affairs and liars than murder. When she's called (via a drop in of the headmaster) to investigate a possible murder at the school her sister teaches she goes more for the money than because of family. So begins Ivy investigating and trying to navigate being around her estranged sister. There were so many aspects to Ivy that could be annoying some of which was her drinking instead of dealing with her life. But instead of getting tired of it I wanted her to grow and deal with her issues. I loved the way she navigated through the school. Her understanding of teenagers (more so than adults) really brought a nice element to the story.
