At first read this novel has a very "Harry Potter for grown-ups" feel. It feels much more like urban fantasy to me, but with a mystery-novel twist. It's definitely a unique blend of genres and one that I think many people will find oddly satisfying. The protagonist is a non-magic personal investigator with a drinking problem (among other problems). Definitely interested to see how the plot pans out and expands on the magical world within it's pages.
