Magic for Liars feels like someone took a pinch of Harry Potter and mixed it with a modern, curse words included Raymond Chandler novel. Ivy, a private investigator that doesn't want to be easily found, is easily found by the headmaster of her estranged sister's school when she wants a murder on the school grounds investigated. Oh, and the school is for mages - not wizards or witches. Despite her lack of magic, and her trying to convince herself she doesn't need it in her life, Ivy is compelled to know more about her sister's world and takes up the case. It will be interesting to see how magic fits in to a murder mystery investigation.
