"Cormoran Strike meets Harry Potter" - this was my first thought after about 30 pages. This is not a bad thing. The writing is good, definitely adult and not YA. There's a murder that must be solved up front. The narrative catches your attention and keeps it. Plus there are mages and a school of magic, so there's your fantasy element. I think this sounds promising.
