There's nothing quite like a narrator who announces she's unreliable from the outset. After the disturbing opening, Ivy nonchalant, "I just got mugged, whatever" attitude really spoke to me. The intersection of the P.I. with the world of magic holds a lot of potential as thrillers and fantasy are my two favorite genres. I need a character I can empathize with and Ivy's practical nature thus far is very relatable. I love the colors and imagery in the cover but I do wish it was easier to read the title, unless that's an intentional choice to invoke an off-kilter feel.
