Lying in the Deep kept me up late reading (the only reason I put it down was because I knew I’d have to get up for work). It was full of mystery that kept me guessing to the very end - I actually didn’t see that main plot twist coming. I truly had no inkling and if there were any breadcrumbs leading to that, I missed them. I did have my suspicions of one of the characters (not naming names to prevent spoilers) but I was wrong.

I did feel bad for Jade, looking so forward to the Semester at Sea to escape her life and problems only to be met by her ex-best friend Lainey and ex-boyfriend Silas. Confused, angry and hurt all she (and I!) wanted answers on what happened with them. Each time she tried to find out, she was interrupted and suddenly Lainey was missing and presumed overboard. Being accused of killing Lainey, she started an investigation herself with her mystery fake boyfriend, Felix, to try and clear her name before they reached the next port.

I absolutely loved this book so much that it left me with a book hanger. I struggled to get into any book I picked up after reading it. A couple weeks before starting it, I took my first ever cruise so it made it easier for me to visualize various parts of the trip.

I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone, not solely YA readers, if they enjoyed who-dun-it mysteries (especially those set in an untypical location).
