Beginning in media res, with literally buckets of blood everywhere, the author immediately plunges her readers into what will be the first of many murders. Reminiscent of “Death on the Nile”, we realize that things don’t look good for our main protagonist, Jade.

Jade’s boyfriend Silas has left her...for her best friend Lainey. It comes out of left field and leaves her reeling. Jade simply doesn’t understand what caused this abrupt shift in feelings and the author ably delineates her confusion, hurt feelings, heartache and double pain at her best friend and boyfriend’s betrayals. The questions she asks are the ones that would rise in any mind: how could they do this? How could they do this to HER? How did this even happen when Lainey and Silas seemed to have zero interest in each other?

Jade is clearly a determined young woman. Some people would turn a cold shoulder to both exes and try to ignore them. But Jade wants answers. We’re on her side and yet uneasy at her inner expressions of vengeance. While we might understand how she feels, we wonder if she is the type to commit murder.

The tension is subtly placed within concerns about grades, cabin rooms, mysterious new faces and old faces appearing out of nowhere. This promises to be an unusual YA novel, chock full of colorful characters, melodrama, crime and passions running high.
