4.5/5 stars! I really enjoyed this beautifully designed comic. There were themes of loss and grief, the challenges of growing, and insight into Vietnamese culture. This comic follows Valentina and Jae as they struggle through their identities, and betrayal of their beliefs, and finding a pathway forward for their growing connection. Val was a top-tier character. Her character development was great and I was moved to tears when she got her heart crushed. This could be triggering for anyone who has dealt with substance abuse issues within their family. I liked Jae a lot too, but in my opinion, Val stole the show. This is a YA graphic novel, but it handles some challenging themes. That said, they were handled beautifully and it was a great read. I am looking forward to seeing what is next for the author/illustrator duo. Stunning cover as well.
