Valentina once loved Valentine's Day. After all, she was named after the holiday. Then, one day, she learned the truth behind why she's really being raised by her single dad. She learns about her family's curse about being unlucky with love. She learns that love never lasts for anyone in her family. One day, at the Lunar New Year celebration, she gets handed a paper heart by a lion dancer and finds herself immediately pulled to him. Val soon finds herself dating Les, the hot lion dancer even though it was really Jae, the quiet one, who gave her the paper heart. Val and Jae become friends as they both realize they are haunted by spirits from their past. It's with Jae that Val realizes that she may be able to break her family's curse after all.

Lunar New Year Love Story is a sweet, coming of age, graphic novel that had me absolutely hooked. Valentina is determined to break her family's curse by finding true love. Along the way, she meets Les and Jae, who are both cousins and who find themselves attracted to Val for two very different reasons. Each section of this novel is differentiated by a different hue of color that sets the mood of that portion of the story. For a graphic novel, this story packed in quite a bit of plot and storyline. I was very impressed because I don't read this genre and I wasn't sure what to expect. Throughout the story, I was rooting for Val to find her HEA and to break her family's curse. From the story, to the narrations, to the use of color, Lunar New Year Love Story was an amazing experience to read.
