Phenomenal Story of Grief and Love

So much to say about this graphic novel, all good things because I absolutely loved this. The story is well thought out and very cute. It’s a story dealing with great emotions of grief and love, beautifully entwined together showing you don’t need to let the past overshadow a happy future. It starts off with Valentina who loves Valentine’s Day and is even named after it, finding out the disheartening truth about her mother and crushing her expectations of love. Fast forward two years later and she no longer loves Valentine’s Day, but ends up finding a new passion in lion dancing. This new passion of hers leads her to finding true love in someone that understands and relates to her. I love all the progression through Valentina’s relationships with her friends and family and I’m glad there was a happy ending. Many of the characters in the story have a period where their relationship with someone else they care about is interrupted by miscommunication, but all turns out well in the end.
I am extremely in awe of the art. The art style is beautiful and I love the color schemes chosen throughout. It’s especially beautiful when the lion dances are on page, they just have such exquisite detail to them. Needless to say, I absolutely loved this and look forward to consuming more content by both of the creators. This would be the perfect read for anyone on Valentine’s Day or Lunar New Year.
