Valentina has always loved Valentine’s Day and she has always created homemade Valentine’s Day cards for her classmates. Every year, in the mail, she even receives a card from Cupid. Her best friend is Cupid and her dad even says that is her imaginary friend.

Sadly, Valentina’s mom has passed away when she was very young, but she doesn’t know why and doesn’t ask her dad any questions. To always keep her dad’s spirits up during this day, she creates a Valentine’s Day card for her dad too. Her dad always brings home curly fries that day.

One year, her classmates make fun of the Valentine’s Day cards she gives out, except for Jae. He really appreciates it, but he is made fun of for liking it, so he throws it away.

Val goes to church with her grandma, where she sees a statue of Saint V (short for Valentine). She realizes her friend Cupid isn’t the cute little creature that you see on cards, but a big dark spirit. He tells Val that she and her family are cursed. They will never experience true love and he gives her one year to find love or he will take her heart.

She finds romance with a kid in school named Les, short for Leslie. He is actually Jae’s cousin and Les encourages Val to join the Dragon Dance Group that he is in. She does and she thoroughly enjoys it.

Val begins to realize certain things about Jae and how Les can’t seem to admit that they are dating. Will Val find true love?

I loved reading this book and I enjoyed looking at the artwork on each page. This book flowed really well and I think it is a great book for young adults and adults. I especially enjoyed seeing that the illustrations were created in ProCreate!
