Loved this adorable graphic novel!

The story was heavy, but the friendships and art were beautiful. We see how one family handles a member leaving them. How dad handles his grief, how he parents in the absence, how daughter interprets the absence, how daughter copes with the absence, how extended family comes together…and how small communities really are. We also see the power of different types of relationships on healing—the affectionate boyfriend with no future, the best friend who’s been there through the ups and downs, the new good friend who’s a life cheerleader, etc. And it shows the reader the impact a small act of friendship can have, years in the future.

I would say that while on its face, this ends up being a love story, it’s truly more a story of community.

The art is gorgeous. It helps tell a wonderful story and was so impactful in my enjoyment of the book.
