I really enjoyed this graphic novel. I don’t typically read a lot of them, but after seeing the beautiful cover, I knew I had to check it out. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous. There is so much attention to detail. The usage of color really helps to convey the different emotions. The contrasting dark hues with the bright reds, yellows, and blues was really eye catching.
The story is actually very complex. Each character has their own personal struggles, some greater than others. There are themes of parental abandonment, death, grief, family, religion, cultural traditions, and love throughout. I was really impressed with how the story unfolded and how the author was able to keep me engaged. I read this book in a few hours because I was so engrossed in the story.
If you enjoy magical realism, family drama, and finding true love, then I highly recommend you read this book.
