While I don't often read graphic novels, I absolutely loved this one. The story was rich with culture, and touches on themes of love, maturity, and generational trauma. Besides being well written and an overall captivating story, it was beautifully illustrated, with detailed and colorful images. For a YA graphic novel, I felt that it conveyed important messages surrounding the importance of being true to yourself and your family. In addition to the graphics, the characters were very lovable--I was a huge fan of the grandmother, who often provided necessary comedic relief. I feel like many can relate to the messages in this story and there are elements of this story that made it easy to connect it to my own. This graphic novel exceeded my expectations in every way. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a heartwarming story intertwined with unique aspects of cultural heritage and family values, paired with irresistible artwork.
