The plot was a very interesting and unique concept. I enjoyed the vivid artwork as well as the representation on Vietnamese culture. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy magical realism graphic novels. In this coming-of-age story, Valentina was faced with some very difficult situations. These relationship complexities added unexpected depth to the story. The plot twist was extremely heavy and not addressed as well as I would have liked. That being said, I would still highly recommend this book. I loved the dragon dancing and the cultural elements it entailed. As a Young Adult book, the romance aspect was not overly juvenile. I admired how Valentina handled these romantic situations, especially because she started off as a hopeless romantic. The character development was well rounded. This is a fantastic Valentine’s Day read.
