If you're a fan of YA, if you want to read a story from an Asian American perspective, if you want to be wow'd by imagery, if you want to examine different definitions of love (friendship, family, romantic, etc), get your hands on Lunar New Year Love Story! It's the kind of story that you can easily finish in one sitting.
This is a beautifully written and illustrated book that will take you on an emotional roller coaster following Valentina from a happy childhood celebrating her favorite holiday, Valentine's Day (of course) through the highs and lows of high school as she learns more about her family, explores friendship and romance and navigates family dynamics. LeUyen Pham's illustrations convey just as much meaning as Gene Luen Yang's words. This is a particularly perfect time to read the book as we head into the Year of the Dragon!
