I got an ARC of this book.

I was surprised at how deep this book was. I was expecting more of a romcom, but instead it was about family trauma, healing, and figuring out what felt right. the MC loves love and Valentine's day, but the older she gets the more jaded everyone around her is.

The physical manifestation of her relationship with love is amazing. Well drawn and just perfect. Starts out innocent and young, clearly a Cupid. Then morphs into a demon and then into bones. It is one of the best physical representations of emotions I have seen. I am a sucker for them, so I really appreciated how it was incorporated here.

The colors used really drove home how Val was feeling. This was not just through her heart problems, but through her finding herself through lion dancing. The lion dancing scenes were gorgeous. They were incredibly long so it felt like it was filler, instead it was gorgeous and graceful. I loved how she was able to learn more about herself, her culture, her heart, and her future all through something so intense for her. It was incredible.

The romance was ok. I wasn't super invested in her finding love. I was more invested in her healing. The more intense the plot got, the less I cared about the actual romance. The rom-com feeling the cover and title gave wasn't important. I needed more of everything else. It was very wonderfully delivered.
